Read that article last night, very exciting news. It has a lot to live up to, because I thought the first was excellent.

It seems that a spin-off has almost always been what was in the works instead of a direct sequel. Though, I'm still kinda skeptical as to how it's going to turn out, but I'll check it out anyways....

Well it still is a sequel in that it is set after the original series, as was originally intended. Sequels don't have to have the same characters.

quote:

Wikipedia:
A sequel is a work in literature, film, or other media that portrays events following those of a previous work.
In many cases, the sequel continues elements of the original story, often with the same characters and settings

So we finally get some news on this. Even though it's a sequel it's nice to see that KG wasn't forgotten altogether, and a number of the original staff have come back as well. Hopefully this one will be out before too long.

No date is yet forthcoming for the new anime series, but the manga starts this month in Comp Ace.
Kiddy Grade 2 (or K-G.2) was always referred to as a temporary title so "キディ・ガーランド" is the actual title. Kiddy GiRL-and is the english version of that used on the logo but, as the logo is provisional that may still change.

Gonzo are not involved with the sequel, gímik have no website (although there was a post in Gotoh's blog concerning the news) and FUNimation are as yet uninvolved - even if they had pre-licensed the series they wouldn't be able to say anything until the ink was dry and these are early days yet since there's no Japanese airdate.

The movies are only availble on Region 2 NTSC DVD from Japan and have Japanese audio only, no subtitles.

If you have the series not to worry since the movies are just a condensed version of the series. If the new series will be as good as the first...i guess we wait and see.

The fourth episode airs on Thursday, and the third episode will be streaming on Youtube briefly around the same time (unsubbed).

It would be very nice if FUNimation could get their hands on this title, and at least make a consistent dub, before someone like Section 23 or Bandai get it and give us a bare bones version with minimal bonus features and no English Dub.

Well, so far there have been four characters from the first series (although two of those only got a line or two at the start of the first episode), two more that have been cast but are yet to appear.

The folllowing seiyuu have all been in both series. Some are reprising roles, others have new names but are probably the same character, others are unknown.

seiyuu | KG char | KGA char (if differen) | VA
Ryoko Nagtata | Éclair || Colleen Clinkenbeard
Aya Hirano | Lumière || Monica Rial
Natsuko Kuwatani | Tweedledee || Clarine Harp
Jun Fukuyama | Tweedledum || Antimere Robinson
Akira Ishida | Un-ou || John "Pugs" Myron
Tetsu Inada | A-ou || Steve Sanders
Kaori Mizuhashi | Mercredi | Hiver | Gwendolyn Lau
Gou Aoba/Itsuki Takizawa* | Armbrust | Sommer | Dameon Clarke
Nobuo Tobita | Sinistra | Shade | Eric Vale
Hirotaka Suzuoki/Kazuya Nakai** | Dextera | Torch | Vic Mignogna

Colleen, Monica, Clarine, Gwen are all in recent dubs like Evangelion and FMA so still actively dubbing for FUNi
I believe Antimere's last dub was El Cazador which was only licensed this year
Pugs has done not worked with FUNimation since but AFAIK he's still doing radio in Fort Worth so maybe if they asked..
Steve Sanders passed away a few years ago.
Dameon has relocated to LA and is now doing live action TV so unlikely to return.
Vic has also moved to LA, but still reprised his role in the new FMA so not impossible.

* Gou Aoba has probably been recast as he hasn't been in anything else since, extrapolating from Kaori Mizuhashi's new role.
** Hirotaka Suzuoki has since passed away so may have been recast, extrapolating from Nobuo Tobita's new role.

Yeah I still need to see the third episode. But so far I'm impressed with the look of it, as for story...I may need a few more episodes to make a decision. To me, it seems like it is still trying to get its footing before taking off.

ANN assumes 12 episodes until there is evidence otherwise, however it will probably be 24 episodes - that was the number provided when someone in Japan called up the local television station who confirmed that Haruhi would be ending and this would be taking over the slot. They were right about the airdate - which had not been officially annouced at that point - so there's no reason to assume they were not correct about the series length also.

Wow, I may have to start making some international calls from time to time.

But as for Kiddy Girl, it is starting to pick up a little. There are some lulls and laughs, but otherwise, it is more than fair. I really would like to give this a review soon.

*goes to get some paper*

Yup, I'll be posting a review of this on Shohan probably by the middle of next month. I'd like to get at least a few more episodes watched first though.

BTW...I feel stupid for asking, but the Cafe owner. Is that a dude? or just a really masculine woman?

The first one was okay, but it wasn't a classic, you know. If they stream it over here, I would watch it, but not buy the DVD's.

Let me know when you've done it and I'll link it from my blog.

I assume Mi nourose is either a crossdresser or a post-op but it has never come up (unlike Momoko from Shangri-la who goes on about it all the time). Being dorm mother I'm hoping the latter.

Really it depends on your stance with the first series, if you were die-hard, then there would be some obvious retractions from plot and substance. But again, it hasn't gone long enough to really establish whether there is something going on behind the scenes that's big or not. I can say that where Kiddy Grade takes some things pretty serious, KGa has more of a carefree attitude right from the go, which will concern some of the fans I imagine. Especially since there is a definite nod in the direction of Moe-ism, that while was present in Kiddy Grade seems to be a little magnified by the character designs and personalities. I personally have big expectations for it, since it was such a highly anticipated sequel.
