All 50 episodes of the legendary series are available for viewing at FUNimation's Video Portal and Crunchyroll. Digital Gate, OPEN!

Okay, I need to confess something that only a few members might know. I'm a digi-freak. I'm a digi-nerd. I'm a digi-fanboy of the highest possible degree. It's awesome, it's funny, it's got great music, it's got great characters, and it's just endless fun to watch. I've gotten back into the series now that all of the second series is on FUNi's site for streaming, and having finally seen more of the Japanese version than just clips, I am in love with it now. Like, fully. I see nothing of worth in the dub anymore aside from the fantastic voice cast.

I'm sure I'm not the only one watching these episodes on FUNi's site, and my urge to resist discussing this series is something I cannot fight anymore, so fans come forth! Anyone who has seen Adventure 02 is welcome to come in here and talk. I can't wait!

I've watched about ten episodes so far, but I've gotten so much nostalgia from them that I basically remember the whole series now. If it helps discussion progress further, I guess this can be an episode by episode talkback since that gives us more to talk about than just the series as a whole.

So I guess let's get started with episode one. What do you like, dislike, whatever?

Yay!  I love Digimon as well!  At least, the first two seasons.  I didn't watch it much after that.  While kids my age were loving Pokemon, I was loving Digimon.

I can't really think of anything I dislike about the first episode, except that Mimi isn't there.  She used to be my favorite.

I'll admit, I liked DigiMon when I was a kid even if it was the edited Studiopolis version. It was definately better than the mindless Pokemon show, DM actually had a real plot and likable characters and drama and it reminded me of an RPG in a way. Never saw the uncuts, I'm curious, but I'd like to see adventure 01 first..

I'm a huge fan of all the seasons, but Adventure 02 is by far the best IMO! You just won a bunch more awesome points MB! *Thumbs up*

I haven't seen a lot of the original version to be honest, but I've long frequented a site called duckfeather that details the differences between the English and Japanese versions of all the seasons. I'll have to hunt up the link again.

Episode 1 I DID watch in Japanese on CrunchyRoll ages ago. Does the FUNi version of the subs still have Hikaru sometimes instead of Hikari? Nothing huge, but it was a minor annoyance.

Davis/Daisuke is at least 10 times cooler than Tai. End of story. XD

Why so surprised? You're one of the few people on this forum that already knew I loved Digimon.

Yah, the subs are all kinds of messed up. Hikari's "Hikaru" at times, a bunch of English Digimon names are used, Jyou/Joe's crest has about three different names, and there are typos (Patamon's "Air Shot" is called "Air Short" in episode one's sub). It's pretty sloppy. But hey, it's Toei. At least honorifics are kept, I guess.

I've long kept track of the differences between the dub and the sub, but I've never gotten a chance to sit down and watch the full series in Japanese. Now that I can legally, I'm pumped.

Don't hate me but Daisuke always reminded me of Naruto, that's why I wanted his voice actor to play Naruto in the dub (he ended up playing Rock Lee...-_-). I'm sorry (bows)

Yes, but you forget - I have the memory of a hamster, MagicBox. ^_^;

Bah, that stinks. Oh well, it's great to get it at all, I'll have to check these out. Any chance FUNi will put these on their YouTube as well? YT always loads faster for me.

LOL, I actually had the same thoughts initially, while reading the manga, gomu! I mean, Naruto looks like...I dunno, Super Saiyan Daisuke, or something.

Oh, and here's that site I was talking about. Wonder if they know about it being streamed more often now...

Yeah but, I dunno bout you guys, but Crunchyroll loads too slowly for me to deal with, which is why I only watched episode 1 there.

And 'sides, it's the perfect excuse to go Digi-Nuts on FUNi Forums! : D

FUNi's stream is loading like poopy for me, so I'm just waiting it out. On my best laptop, it only takes about ten minutes to load an episode, so I just wait it out.

Phooey on both the goggle boys. Nobody beats Takeru/T.K.

Well, I'm going to try to have each of my posts cover a separate episode, since I feel that helps extend the discussion as far as it can go. If we just talk about the series as a whole, we run out of stuff too fast.

Digimon's also a series I love making fun of, since Toei's writing staff is always fun to LOL at, no bashing of the series itself intended. There's a few WTF moments in episode one for me, like why Miyako/Yolei and Iori/Cody's Digivices come out of Daisuke's Digimental and why Tailmon/Gatomon remains in her Adult/Champion form even though the fact that none of them could evolve was the PERFECT excuse to use Plotmon/Salamon, but whatever. It's still a ton of fun, and "Break Up" is my favorite evolution song ever, so that's one reason why I can't get enough of 02.

... Okay, using both English and Japanese names is killing me, so I'm using Japanese names. It'll help me memorize them anyway. Sorry, dubbies...

(in Tristan voice) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just kidding, once I watch the episodes I'll get the hang of the real names, some are pretty simple (Daisuke/Davis, lol).

Yeah, if nothing else, the name translations always made since in Digimon, for the most part. Taichi to Tai, Yamato to Matt, Daisuke to Davis. The only ones I can't really figure out are Miyoko to Yolei, and Iori to Cody.

...sorry MagicBox. I'll restrain myself until I watch some episodes. >_<

I've been meaning to check them out on Crunchyroll and this finally gives me an excuse. I was a Digi-nut growing up so I know how you feel MagicBox. I used to have a season on VHS and a movie too, can't remember which ones though. They were the only reason I even watched FOX for the longest time. I'll give my opinion on episode one when I get a chance.

...sorry MagicBox.

For what? I didn't say you couldn't talk about whatever you wanted. I just said what I was going to personally do with my posts.

You guys can talk about whatever y'all want to. There's no reason to apologize. I'll honestly discuss anything related to the series! I'm not giving this thread rules or anything. Feel more than free to talk about whatever you want, not just a specific episode.

The "specific episode per post" thing is just something I'm personally doing in addition to talking about whatever else is brought up in the thread.

You have a way with words Magic... so much so that I feel the need to watch these, lol.

I haven't watched Digimon in years, so I can't really remember anything about it. Is it worth watching, for someone who hasn't watched the series in years?

Umm, what is FUNi streaming, I'm way to lazy, ATM, to go 'n check. Is it subs, or dubs? Oh, and it seems you're making fun of both the sub and dub, which one is better, in your opinion?

The quality of a show in my eyes is inversely proportional to the number of moment-ruining puns that exist in the dialogue. That said, it goes without saying that I prefer the Japanese version, which is what FUNi's streaming. I love the English cast, but that's about the only thing about the dub I still like. The music's better, the evolution songs are better, and the dialogue is Saban-proof.

I make fun of both because Digimon is really, really easy to make fun of, as much as I love it. It's kind of campy regardless of the language you watch it in, but I still love it to death. As for whether or not you want to watch it, I dunno, give episode one a try and see.

Just didn't wanna drag it away from what you were trying to do with it MagicBox. ^_^;

That said, Episode 1 is loading right now so I'll have it watched soon. I watched this one back on CrunchyRoll when it went up, but if I'm gonna watch these I may as well start from the beginning.

I can survive the dub with major rolling of the eyes, simply because I grew up with it. That makes a major difference on how I handle the campiness factor of shows. For example, I can watch the old TMNT cartoon from the 80s and just ugh, roll my eyes, laugh, and keep watching through the lame puns, cuz I grew up with it. I tried watching the original Transformers a while back, which I never watched growing up. I got to some reaaalllly campy line from an Autobot voiced by Casey Casem, and all I could do is wonder who the heck gave the keys to a mech to Shaggy.

I even like the dubs music, as kiddy as it is, some of those insert songs are great, I'd love to find the Digimon movie CD since I think it had a bunch of them.

And yeah, Digimon is aimed at a young audience, so there's some corny moments regardless of the version. But that doesn't stop it from being fun and just chock full of charm.

Oh, and though Takeru has a cool hat (in 02 anyway), he only wishes he were cool enough for goggles.

And to bring up yet another new thought, who is you guys' favorite chosen child and partner (or Digidestined and Digimon partner) in 02? For me it's definitely Daisuke and Veemon. I don't really just love Veemon, but Daisuke is great. If we had the 02 movies to choose from here, I'd definitely have to throw out a big 'Woo-hoo!' for little Terriermon, who is just so full of win it's not even funny.

I have that Digimon movie CD.  I still listen to it sometimes.

My favorite Digidestined used to be Mimi, but now it's Izzy (I would say his original name, but I can't remember it right now.)  I don't really care that much for Tentomon, though.  But, my favorite Digimon has to be Lilymon.  Or Terriermon.  He's awesome.
