There are five shows.

First One: Kids have Digimon partners.
Second One: This is the one FUNi's streaming. Sequel to first series.
Third One: Different characters/setting. Takes place in the "real" world. Kids with Digimon partners.
Fourth One: Kids turn into Digimon.
Fifth One: Kids with Digimon partners.

Oh ok. Sorry bout that. ^_^;

There are currently five different Digimon series or seasons, the one this thread is for is the second one, and the only one that actually connects to a prior story.

And whats special about it in that case is that this is the first time we've been able to see it subbed and uncut, in legal form. It's really a big deal for us Digi-nuts.

It probably would be best, yes. Not completely neccessary, but it would make a lot more sense to you as you watch it if you do.

Haha, thanks. I had to make this myself by using a panel from the Digimon: V-Tamer manga. It's an alternate version of season 1 of the anime, sorta.

Oh, unless you meant how did I get a custom avatar period lol. Once you hit 2,500 posts, you can use anything you want as an avatar, barring stuff that breaks the rules obviously.

I noticed it too. Don't know what to tell ya. It's either the quality masters FUNi ws given or the quality of the stream.

I'm a huge fan of Digimon too. I never knew Season 2 was avaible on FUNimation's website, so I'll probably watch them soon. The only thing that bothers me is the language, I would have prefered English voices instead of Japanese... That's the dub I'm used to.

I also have a question for you guys. Do you think FUNimation or another company will release Digimon season sets on DVD? I looked everywhere on the web for informations, but nothing interesting to be found... A few DVD were released, but not entire seasons. I would love to get Season 1 and 2, I simply think they're the best. So much childhood memories! I don't think I'm the only one here waiting for this.

I've read previous posts about it, but everyone seems to be negative about a future DVD release. But, did we get some informations since then?

No news yet. It's not likely.

Watch the Japanese version and I guarentee you won't be able to go back. I LOVE the dub cast, but once you see Digimon with the Japanese songs and without the added jokes and stupid dialogue, you just can't sit through the dub anymore.

That's how it was with me.

Thanks for your reply MagicBox. I'll try watching it in Japanese, after all it's the original version. It's not that I hate Japanese voices, but I usually prefer English when I'm watching anime. There's also the fact that you must read all the time, and by doing this you miss some action. That's what happened to me most of the time with other shows I watched that way. Well, guess you get used to it!

And for a DVD release, do you think it's a question of copyrights or something? Or they simply don't care about Digimon anymore? Just curious to know...

It really has to do with the fact that FUNimation just doesn't own the shows. Toei's just letting them have the digital streaming rights.

As for the show itself, I like being able to watch a faithful dub as well, and if it sticks to the script, I'll usually prefer it over the original. Sadly, though, in the case of Digimon and other shows like DragonBall, a completely faithful dub just doesn't exist. The Japanese version's worth multiple viewings for the music alone. Another point to mention is that Digimon's animation is extremely low-budget, full of repeated scenes and limited movement. This is usually just terrible, but if there's anything good to be said about that, it's that you won't miss hardly anything by having to read subs on top of watching the show.

I would say digimon does better on a low budget then most show that I can think of. (budget to quality ratio I mean).

Hum, I understand now. I thought FUNimation had something to do with it since it's on their web site. So it's all up to Toei I guess. Thanks for clearing things up.

And you're right about repeated scenes, there's plenty of them through the series (Transformations, Digimon attacks, etc.). So maybe it's not that bad to miss a few scenes. Best way to know is to try it. I'll give you my thoughts about this after a few episodes.

I know Disney acquired the rights from Saban but I can't remember if that's changed. I want to say that's still where we are regarding progress, but I'm not sure.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the series when you watch it.

Our only small chance for a release of the other shows at this point, IMO anyway, is for the Data Squad sets to sell well. If they sell well, then Well Go USA might look into a deal to do the other shows on DVD with Disney.

We've had a couple of false starts of a (dub-only) DVD release of the first season in the UK from Maximum entertainment. So far they have got as far as episode 20 but they have currently stalled (again).
AFAIK we've still never had either Frontier or Savers on TV here, although I don't see a lot of kids TV these days other than the Disney channel (and I try to avoid that as much as possible)

So Shirobane, are you a Digimon fan as well? I've seen you make one other post in this thread, but it was just trivia so I just assumed you were a trivia buff who just likes to keep up with anime releases in general.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the series if you're a fan.

And on top of that, could you go further on that false-start thing Shirobane? I take it the rumors of full season sets for all four seasons being made available in the UK were completely false then.

Well that stinks...there goes my import plans.

I never said this but I am a huge fan of Digimon! This series rocks! I hope funimation plans to release this series someday or that company who is releasing the 5th series right now.
