I moved to the UK from Asia a while back. For those of you who don't already know, the UK is extremely poor for Anime. Most shows do not screen on TV in the UK, ever. And only a fraction of shows come out on DVD, and even then it's often over a year after they've come out in the US. So was extremely excited when I found out about the Funimation video portal.

However I am now EXTREMELY disapointed that I've been locked out. I can't even get into the video portal to watch shows like xxxholics which Funimation has actually released on DVD in the UK.

Great one Funimation. You started out with a service that beat out the pirates and now you've taken it away. All that this will do is will make piracy more prevelant and then you won't even get the ad money.

I vote that Funimation unlock the video portal for UK users. Funimation has dozens of UK releases, it's stupid that I can't even see these. In fact its supid that I can't even see the trailers for up and coming releases, or the Funimation vblogs/ads.

This is definately going to give more people the reason to want to hack sites for Anime then they had before if it continues.

As I said before... Funimation was the only place I could legally veiw anime, and it made me more likely to want to go out and buy it...

It would be nice to get some sort of official message rather then a total blank-out.

Good news for all of you UK viewers!  Latest Twitter:

"UK-based visitors to the FUNi video portal will be temporarily unable to access our content. We are in the process of opening the video of each series approved for streaming in the UK and this will take more time to complete.  This is only temporary and we fully intend for these series to return for fans in the UK."

You think they'd put that on the main news site, or at least the blog rather then twitter... *eyerolls*

Its good news at least... I just hope that all the shows I loved (Aquarion, Blassreiter, Strain etc.) are still accessable, as well as the new shows I've been getting into like FMA:B, Phantom and Dragonaut...

I will be extremely annoyed if the UK aren't allowed to access them anymore.

Hey! I'm trying... been busy today.  Plus it's my birthday!

Twitter is the easiest place to put up a short line of information.

Here:

UK-based visitors to the FUNimation video portal (www.funimation.com/video) will be temporarily unable to access our content.
We are in the process of opening the video of each series which is approved for streaming in the UK and this will take additional time to complete. Again, this is only temporary and we fully intend for these series to return for our fans in the UK.

I'll try to not annoy you. But seriously, if you guys experience any other problems, do let us know. I'll hit all your emails also and should have all those responded to by tomorrow.  I've read every one of your comments, but I can't always answer until we get an official statement OK'd by everyone.  Don't wanna put my foot in my mouth.  :P

Sorry man, I know your just trying to do your job, but surely you appreciate how annoying it is to have no information on a subject, and when you do get it its just short, generic and vague as to whats really happening.

And alot of people hate Twitter, or as I wasn't until someone mentioned it on the boards, aware that Funimation even had a Twitter... Putting things like that in the official news, or at least on the main page just seems alot more logical to me.

Thanks for the reply Mr Official rep, and happy birthday!

Good to know it's only a temporary thing, did have us worried for a minute there though.

Ah. Some good news, finally.

Still, not handled very well, since none of us here had the slightest clue what was going on...

And... Twitter? - Well it would have helped if I even knew funimation had a twitter feed. Ah well.
We have our answer now, so now it's just having the patience to wait until all that stuff has been sorted out.

We should have an answer on the Phantom and FMA: Brotherhood stuff by tomorrow.  I repeat "SHOULD." Hehe... yeah...
It's understandable that lack of information can be annoying.

Thank you funi rep (and happy birthday), I'm glad you're trying to get this all sorted out for us Brits. I don't want to sound too much like a kiss up but the fact that they are going the extra mile for the UK fans is one of the reasons I like funimation so much... seriously most other anime companies just ignore the UK's market potential.

What Gwiber said *nods in agreement.*

That and we don't have to put up with the poor quality 'super-cr*p-o-vision' fansubbed versions from other sites. FUNi has always been quality.

It makes me a little, only a little! bit happy about a few shows at a time being open to the british nation. But the main problem is that the anime market is extremely poor over here. Revelation films has a lot of funimation titles being released but it's extremely slow and it does not come with many extras such as the School Rumble season 1 starter set does not even come with the magnets or a booklet!! how sad it that? well extremely sad for british people. That is how hard we get it.

I think if i win the lottory (pffft yeah right) I would buy all the region 1 DVDs from america direct from the retailers.

Before the Video Portal closed down, i was watching all the latest episodes of phantom and Fma Brotherhood on the Video Portal (Legal) and going to buy them if ever released!!! But since it closed and the british public has not got the rights to view the shows i can see my self in the future watching pirates. (Sorry Funi, that's life?) I think as i said before we have it hard enough with slow and maybe never R2 release for UK.
I think British people should get some more credit for what we been putting up for.

Thank you for working your best Funimation.

Regards,
Sam.

Well put Iodene,

It makes in so jealous when looking for anime on DVD for shows that I like and find that its not for sale within the UK for that only half of the DVD volumes have been released over here then its been over a year form the last volume release with no word if and when the entire series goes on sell.

Some animes that aired over here ages ago you can not even watch online legal let along get on DVD.

Well lets hope the shows I and others fell in love with will be made available for us over here again to watch online as we dream that someday we will be able to buy a DVD with the shows we love on.

If I won I'd set up a distribution company that could release stuff near concurrently with the US for international companies like funi and the others that don't have a base in the UK. Do it right and you do have a licence to print money for both you and the people you're distributing for.

Every few seconds the video is now "Buffering" - sometimes it sites for minutes at a time and does nothing, and I have to re-start the video. Other times, after browsing some other websites, suddenly it kicks in again - and works for about 2 or 3 minutes. It's pretty bad right now. Cant watch a thing. Have to keep reloading the page over and over and over again and watching the same commercials 50 times or more, and still only get less than 1/3 of the way thru the episode.

I know Funimation has some UK anime companies such as 'Manga Entertainment, MVM, ADV and Revelation films have sub-license a few shows from Funimation for UK release. But does Funimation realise that if they were to set up their own company in the UK, example 'Funimation-UK' They would gain a massive profit from the UK public and it possibly might get other people into anime and to start buying the DVDs or watching them on TV. The anime Naruto is on at 9:00PM i think every night, and you would not believe how many people watch it over in the UK, You would go to your work in the morning and the people in the office would be saying 'Hey did you see Naruto?' Now if Funimation put their shows on UK TV. I can imagine what it would be like...

I really do believe that if Funimation drives towards UK they would make a massive lump of money. I'd wish they would take it in to consideration but at the end of the day Funimation is still a 'business' and their top priorty is to gain money.

Regards,
Sam.

It shows how well Anime would do over here in the UK if it was properly promoted and distributed when, with currently no TV channel for it, having to wait forever for releases, poor promotion, people having to rely on word of mouth, friends loaning etc etc... that I can go into my local HMV (Music and video retail chain store) and they still have an Anime section that takes up the same shelf area as their entire childrens DVD section.
